When exercising what should a kid and adult heart rate be? When tracking your heart rate during exercise, one should consider their desired target heart rate and their maximum heart rate. This is different for everyone based on their age and their training goals. Using the equation (220-Age) you can find what is called your maximum heart rate. For example, a 10-year-old would have a maximum heart rate of 210 bpm (220-10), whereas a 70-year-old would have a max heart rate of 150 bpm (220-70) by using the equation (220-Age). Based on your maximum heart rate you can then calculate your target heart rate depending on your desired training goals. Your target heart rate is a percentage of your maximum heart rate. For example, a vigorous exercise should put your heart rate 70-85% of your maximum heart rate. Whereas a more moderate exercise may put your heart rate in the 50-70% range of your maximum heart rate. |
